A freak accident almost changed Carrie Underwood’s life
Celebrities, despite their fame and fortune, are not immune to accidents. In November 2017, Carrie Underwood encountered a harrowing mishap when she fell on the steps outside her Nashville home. Initially, she kept the extent of her injuries private, only disclosing a wrist injury, until a revelation on her fan club site in 2018. In a statement shared via Variety, she disclosed, “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [Underwood’s husband] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”
Despite her concern about potential changes to her appearance, she expressed gratitude that her injuries weren’t more severe. Months later, she humorously quipped on “Sunday Morning,” “My face broke my fall.” Underwood made a full recovery, with any alteration in her appearance barely perceptible to those outside her inner circle. Nonetheless, in an industry where image holds significant sway, one can only imagine the anxiety she experienced during that period.
Her ordeal served as inspiration for several tracks on her 2018 album, “Cry Pretty.” Even after her injury, Underwood showed resilience, as evidenced by her swift return to the stage at the American Country Music Awards, mere days after the incident.
