Kitchen renovation of only 6 square meters turned out to be successful
For her birthday, the children decided to surprise their mother by renovating her small kitchenette, which is just 6 square meters in size. Despite a modest budget, they undertook all the work themselves, creating a heartfelt gift.
A couple of years ago, they had already installed a plastic window, so they left it untouched but removed the window sill, replacing it with a wide countertop perfect for cooking.
They stripped off the faded wallpaper, replaced the flooring with tiles, and updated the kitchen façade, concealing the old plastic doors. Using lattice screens, they cleverly hid the radiator, ensuring warm air could still circulate.
When choosing furniture, they opted for white, dispelling the misconception that white is hard to maintain. In a small space, white furniture maximizes light and creates an illusion of spaciousness.
The new countertop, replacing the window sill, extended the working area significantly. Built-in lighting under the cabinets ensures no shadows interfere with cooking.
They placed the sink in a corner, conveniently close to the working area but away from the stove to avoid splashes. Although they couldn’t afford a new refrigerator, they plan to cover it with matching façades in the future. They also persuaded their mother to remove the magnets, giving the kitchen a more streamlined look.
The microwave, though not ideally placed on top of the refrigerator, is rarely used. A small TV on the wall provides entertainment while cooking or dining.
Overall, the transformation was a success, and their mother was thrilled and proud of their efforts.
