October Shutdowns: A Comprehensive List of Target Stores Slated for Closure
In response to an escalating wave of shoplifting and ‘organized retail crime,’ Target has announced the closure of nine stores across four states on October 21. Despite efforts to combat the issue by increasing security personnel, engaging third-party guard services, and implementing theft-deterrent tools, the company continues to grapple with persistent criminal challenges. Here are the regions most impacted, along with the current number of operational businesses and employed individuals:
- 517 East 117th Street, Harlem, New York City – Out of a total of 96 shops, more than 20,000 people are employed.
- 4535 University Way NE, Seattle, WA
- 1448 NW Market St., Suite 100, Ballard – Nearly 4,000 people are on staff with 22 remaining locations.
- San Francisco/Oakland – The addresses include 1690 Folsom St. in Oakland and 2650 Broadway.
- Pittsburg – The remaining location with 32 stores and approximately 6,400 employees is at 4301 Century Blvd.
- Portland – There are still 15 stores and almost 2,500 employees in the areas of Galleria at 939 SW Morrison St., Powell at 3031 SE Powell Blvd., and Hollywood at 4030 NE Halsey St.
Despite maintaining around 150 open shops in these regions, Target is actively collaborating with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations division. The company is also taking measures such as installing locks on display cases containing valuable items. While reaffirming its commitment to ‘meaningful investments’ across various fronts, Target candidly admitted that finding a solitary solution to the problem remains elusive
