Phil Collins Opens Up About Drumming Struggles: ‘Barely Holding a Drumstick Now
Phil Collins, celebrated for his illustrious career with Genesis and as a solo artist, confronts formidable physical challenges on his musical journey. Nurturing a love for music since his early years and displaying his passion through early performances, Collins embarked on a remarkable trajectory.
In the 1970s, Collins joined Genesis, swiftly becoming a pivotal member and eventually assuming the role of lead singer. His solo career, featuring chart-toppers like “In The Air Tonight” and “You Can’t Hurry Love,” solidified his iconic status in the music industry.
Despite leaving Genesis for solo pursuits, Collins reunited with the band in 2017, announcing a world tour. However, health setbacks have cast a shadow over his ability to drum, leading his son Nicholas to take on those responsibilities.
Acknowledging his physical challenges, Collins disclosed, “I can barely hold a stick with this hand,” citing health issues such as dislocated vertebrae and nerve damage from surgery. These afflictions raise uncertainty about his future in touring.
The looming health concerns hint at the possibility of an end to touring for both Collins and Genesis, prompting contemplation of retirement from the road.
