Woman and her dog enjoy retirement in 200 square-foot tiny house

Vicky’s journey through progressively smaller living spaces over the past decade culminated in her current home, Lala Land, a 200-square-foot tiny home in Tennessee. Despite its compact size—just eight and a half feet wide—Vicky designed her tiny home to maximize storage and functionality, ensuring that she and her faithful companion, Jasper the dog, have everything they need to live comfortably.

While Lala Land may be small, Vicky has created a welcoming space that can accommodate guests, particularly with the addition of an enclosed deck boasting stunning views of the Tennessee scenery. This outdoor space has become even more essential for socialization during the pandemic, providing ample room for gatherings and meals al fresco.

In the kitchen, Vicky’s passion for cooking shines through, with her tiny home equipped with a convection oven and full-size refrigerator. A spacious farmhouse sink allows her to tackle meal prep and clean-up with ease, while handmade dishes and glasses add a personal touch to her culinary endeavors.

The loft area serves as a cozy sleeping space for Vicky and Jasper, complete with a full-size bed and custom shelving for her collection of hiking and running shoes. While she appreciates the efficiency of loft living, Vicky acknowledges the challenges, particularly as she gets older, such as the difficulty of changing sheets in the confined space.

Despite the inevitable challenges of tiny living, including humidity issues and limited storage, Vicky remains committed to the lifestyle for the sense of freedom it affords her. She openly shares her experiences and lessons learned, recognizing both the benefits and drawbacks of downsizing. In fact, she’s even expanding her tiny home to accommodate visiting family and friends, inviting them to experience the joys of tiny living firsthand.
